BlephEx is a painless in-office procedure for the treatment of dry eye disease and Blepharitis.
What is Blepharitis?
Blepharitis refers to inflammation of the eyelids. It often occurs because the tiny oil-producing glands in the eyelids (meibomian glands) become blocked or irritated.
Everyone has some bacteria on their skin. But some people have more bacteria at the base of their eyelashes than others. This can cause dandruff-like flakes to form. In other cases this can be caused by an over-population of microscopic mites, known as Demodex, living inside the eyelash follicles.
How can BlephEx help?
The BlephEx handpiece is used to carefully spin a medical grade micro-sponge along the edge of your eyelids and lashes, removing debris and exfoliating your eyelids.
The eyelid margin – with its moisture, nutrients and warmth – provides the perfect environment for a thriving biofilm.
Biofilm is a thin, sticky layer of bacteria, oils, dead skin cells, and debris that builds up along the lash line.
BlephEx is highly effective at clearing the biofilm and improving dry eye symptoms in the process.
Red Light therapy
Prior to undergoing the BlephEx procedure, every patient receives a treatment session with a Red Light therapy mask. Red Light Therapy is a highly effective dry eye treatment and the heat from the mask will also help to soften the oils in the eyelids for a more effective BlephEx treatment.
